well im new to this and im wondering how much i can oc my system with out pushing anything to its limit. More of a learning experience then anything its running on a stock cooler that will change once i start learning more about the language. My main concerns are the volts

yes i know but im looking for small increments, learning experience like i said ive got all the tools for ocing just no time in the actually trade. Now i can sit here and read every post on ocing like i have for 6 months or so but whats the point with out giving it a try. im looking for a 3.3 oc anyways id rather see what the cpu will do before i upgrade my cooling system. Currently im using an old alienware case 2004 i think and if need be ill upgrade the case,Need BE. But to be honest id dont want to the hdd setup is great and overall, just looks cool if i could just add another 120mm fan instead of replacing the case im all for it. only thing is im not sure if the v10 will fit but ill worry about that later.

So put the clock at 16.5 and thats it for the 3.3.. im dont feel like ocing the memory right now or should i change the fsb instead of the clock

just increase the multi by 0.5 if you want a 3.3ghz OC and no memory OC.

Agree with @derbixcrace ,
no raise fsb just raise multiplier but need go to bios sellect voltage by manual don't auto. From here you will get lower vcore, maybe low temp

yeah, i'd put the CPU voltage at around 1.35v.

This site is slow on an hd7 Took me ten mins to login lol. Now I though I only changed the volts when overclocking around 3.6

Should I try lowering voltage? I currently have a 965 at 3.9 and 1.425V.

I'd answer that if I knew I'm still learning the volts. From what I read after over clocking if the system doesn't boot you add volts in increments till the systems boots then start testing once again to see if its stable but just because your running 1.425 doesn't mean i could alot radios i guess. But hell I'm not sure if this is rights hopefully a pro will so me the way lol.

1.425v isnt that high kajabla, i think you will run into instability if you start lowering the volts but you are free to try if you wish. :)

anything up to 1.5v is fine as long as your temps is fine. (under 60C)

So can anyone tell me why I should put the volts to 1.35. For the 3.3 overclock

because with that voltage your CPU should be really stable for that OC, also its usually the stock voltage for the phenom II's.

nothing that requires you to go that vcore. overclock
it would be better if you get the maximum results
with low-voltage and temperature. it's just a good
suggestion

correct, you could maybe even get up to about 3.5 with those volts.

hey once again another question.. when i run the benchmarks with msi the core temp says 1.4000 v is that way to high because if im dropping to 1.35 its confusing me

well i was about to do it but once i got into the bios theres alot of voltages and im i changing the cpu voltage control to 1.35

so i oc to 3.3 and ran msi kombustor she started beeping lol 55c looks like im buying a v8 tomm

v8 sucks and MSI kombustor is a GPU stress tool, not CPU.

For stressing CPU you need Prime95 and for temp monitoring get HWmonitor.

no i know thats why i used msi because if i used prime id go over 65 most likely.. ive got hwmontior what about pcmark7?

memory, north bridge, the whole nine

ok yeah sure, the best way to OC is trough upping the HT reference clock. then northbride, hypertransport, RAM and CPU of course will follow.

you get most performance out of it buy not touching the multi and only OCing with HT reference clock.

alright.. I need something here im trying to get arma 2 to run alittle better on my system 30 fps, no idea why its so low. Every other game i play has great performance but yet doesnt hurt to push it alittle harder. Im thinking about picking up one of the x6's but with amd coming out with their new processors in sept not really sure what to do because overclock

no use to get the x6, its not any better in gaming than the x4.

Im hoping to see a 20 frame rate increase with that card. Trying to get ready for battlefield 3 & Arma 3. By the way I called those local guys at first he didn't know what a heat stink was lol then he went into yeah we've got a few used ones etc. I've got no idea how these local shops stay in business with the usual line "we can order it" no *** so can the no gas station down the street. So i may just wait till best buy gets them in stock and go from there but in the mean time I added another fan from an old school p4 and placed it on the bottom of the tower just for better circulation
