Freezing Issue with Dell Precision 690

I'm having weird freezing issue with my Dell workstation. This issue presents it self even when computer is under heavy load or no load at all.

Everything freezes in an instant, moving the mouse, the laser light under turns off, touching any key on the keyboard the lights go off, power is cut to all USB components. At first I thought it could be driver issue but I've updated all the drivers. I've tried it with different operating systems, switched out the CPU, changed the memory, changed the hard drive and still the issue persists...

I'm wondering if there is a program/tool for testing bad components or if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated...

Thank you,

Dell Precision 690, (2) Dual-Core 2.66, 16GB's FB-DIMM, Vista 64-Bit, 150GB Raptor...

First thing I would do would be to check the motherboard for any bulging or leaky capacitors (the little battery looking components on the board). I had a Dell 690 which would randomly shut down in the middle of running programs with no warning. Turned out to be "capacitor plague". Most of the bulging capacitors in my unit were around the memory bus (5 to be exact) Another thing to check would be the power supply. I believe most units came with a 750 watt and a 1000 watt upgrade option. Unfortunately the power supply in the 690 has special connectors, making a bench test with a different power supply difficult. Best of luck

^+1 100 percent agree with that advice

Had a Dell precision 450 with blown caps
also good chance it is power supply also

I have a 690 with leaking caps that filter for the memory banks. Anyone know what the specs are on this cap? I can't read anything useful on it. Going to pull the MB to see if I can read anything different.
