I have a laptop (IBM A30) that has stopped working, but the hard drive
is fine, and it has XP Pro installed. Would it be possible to transfer
the hard drive to another A30 and have it continue to work as it did,
or is the OS somehow keyed to my individual computer?

It should work with no problem.

The IBM preinstalls of XP are BIOS locked to IBM systems in general, not to
a specific ThinkPad (and not even to a specific ThinkPad model).
