I'm wanting to buy an phenom ii x4 955 or 965 (tell me which is the better buy please) and an 5870 to replace my 4870 512mb to run arma 2 on the highest settings, and also OF 2 when its releasesed soon. I want to be ready for it and be able to play them on the highest settings.

My question is: is it a good idea to replace my phenom ii x4 920 OCed to 3.3ghz to an 955 or 965. I know arma 2 is more CPU intensive than GPU soo i need to get the highest possible ghz. I'm going to be using my cooling off my 920 and use it on the 955 or 965. I'm running this on a TA790gx mobo

The 955 won't improve anything, unless you overclock it past 3.3ghz, the 965 will improve things very little, unless you overclock it, but I'm pretty sure a 3.3ghz PII X4 won't be a bottleneck for any game (the only game I can think of that may get close to saturating that CPU would be the RTS game Supreme Commander 2, but it won't be out until 2010), not even with a 5870.

I bet you can easily max out Arma 2 and OF 2 with your current CPU and a 5870.

I agree with Gulli, either of those CPU upgrades will not be a very noticeable improvement over the 920.

Btw....apparently Supreme Commander 2 will have some CPU optimizations over the original and the expansion. Better pathfinding algorithm or something like that.

How about TWO 5870 not another CPU..........

It's the SAME chip. Same stepping if i'm not mistaken either
