I have the choice between the two.
I have pretty good cooler that can get an Pentium 4 from 2.93 to 4ghz, if it could support the voltage.
I could probably clock e5200 to like 3.6ghz or more, depending on voltage.
E5700 i don't know, maybe 3.8ghz? All the other specs are same, 800mhz FSB and such, so the ultimate comparison will be which clocks higher?
If i clocked e5200 to 3ghz it would be same as e5700?
It would be much easier to obtain e5200 than e5700...
And how much power it consumes when its overclocked? My current P4 takes like 111watts, OC-ed.
TDP of all of the Wolfdales is 65 watts. So your present PSU will be adequate.
Many E5200's will run at 4 GHz, depending on the motherboard. G31 and G41's have an upper FSB limit of about 360 MHz, but with a CPU with a 200 MHz FSB freq, that is not a problem.
The Wolfdales are pretty efficient. Even a mediocre cooler will be enough for a moderate overclock.
In addition to two Core2 quads, I have an early E5200, an E6500, and an E7500. The best I could do with the E5200 was a bit over 3.75 GHz even with 1.6 volts applied. The other two both run past 4 GHz.
What kind of motherboard are you planning on using?
