I have a dual CPU capable workstation that bought equipped with a single Xeon E5450. The chip sells for a premium which has not come down much in the months since the purchase. A new E5450 costs ~$1000. Slower Xeons in the family go for ~$250? I'm thinking of swapping out the E5450 for two of something cheaper and keep the difference. What's the least hassle, best way of going about this? Sell on Ebay then buy two retail? Any considerations I am missing here? TIA

There is no right or wrong way to swap them out. It really comes down to whatever is easiest for you and will put the least hurt on your wallet.

Me personally, I'd buy the new pair and then sell the old.
