I'm making a temporary rig to replace my dell 1100. I'm going to re-use my hard drive, optical (IDE) and case.
This will just be running on a 1152x864 resolution monitor so I won't need an extremely overkill video card. The most graphics intense game I will be playing is probably TF2/L4D.
Only parts required are the psu, cpu, mobo, ram and video card. I'm having alot of trouble with these and I need some help..
I also forgot, this is in canadian dollars.

From my understanding, the dell case is proprietary, and only fits dell motherboards, which is also proprietary. A normal ATX motherboard won't fit into the dell case. sorry =/
Totaled its 388$ without shipping, but it has 40$'s worth of rebate. The CPU is definitely discount, but it should do just fine for you. The motherboard allows for future upgrades, and the combo lets you save enough to upgrade the GPU.

You also say temporary rig, how long are you planning on this lasting?
I already understand about the dell cases, which is why I have a drill with bits and many other tools, worst comes to worst.. If I cant salvage it, I'll make a wood tech bench and use that.
Temporary will be about 3-5 months.
mr_bojangles, I like that idea but what I don't like is the antec 300. It doesn't come with the two front fans which causes me to lose some airflow.
Thanks everyone, and if you want to try an intel build for me that would be great. I was trying but I couldn't make ends meet with the psu.

alright then! Ill move that money from the case over to a better CPU, what are you planning on doing with this computer after the 5 months? fully replace or upgrade it?

Sell and replace. Along the way I will probably buy a cheap case locally just so I can sell it easier.
