Hi, when i started up my computer it went to post and asked me for a password,as i dont have one i pressed enter a few times and the computer is now locked. When i press the power button the fans run and the red light in the power switch stays on permanantly, there are no beeps from the buzzer, ive left the cmos battery out and the jumper moved,it takes 3 days to clear the cmos, the only problem is that the cycle happens all over again. I cant find out how to get to the bios to recover it or to clear the password. Does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem. Thank you.
Michael

I use the "del" key on the lower right side of the keyboard. You may have a section for the password. If you find it, press enter and leave a blank space where it asks for it, and press enter again to reset it. Then save and exit. Some oem boards have a special jumper on the motherboard you can move to reset the password. I'm trying to download the manual, but it's too slow; will have to retry later.

Try o1die's suggestion first. I think you can clear the CMOS (the BIOS settings), which will reset all the settings to their default values. You can access the manual here, go the Download tab, enter you operating system, and you'll be taken to a list of downloads. The manual is at the bottom of the list.

On page 15 you will find a good picture of your motherboard. The BIOS chip is labeled 10, above that chip is the battery. Just above the BIOS chip, on the left-hand corner, there are letters stamped on the board: CLRTC, next to that, a blue jumper. Find it on your board. The jumper connects the left and center pins - the right pin is uncovered.

Now disconnect your computer's power cord from the wall, press and hold the power button a few seconds. Ground yourself with a grounding strap, and touch the case before you remove the battery. After you remove the battery, remove the CLRTC jumper and replace it covering the center and right pins. Wait a few minutes. Remove the jumper and re-place it over the left and center pins (to the original position). Replace the battery. Connect the power cord. Power-up the computer, press the delete key to enter the BIOS. Reset the date and time, etc.

I still run a P4P800- E Deluxe, it's a great board.

thank you for the reply, i have moved the jumper to clear the bios but it takes 3 days left on before it will clear enough to go to post, then the same thing happens again and locks the computer. im beginning to think the bios is corrupted or the mother board has a fault, i have read the manual and there is a crash free bios, ive downloaded it to floppy but i cant get the computer to run long enough to access it. :??:
