Hi there!

I have an ati 4890 gpu..... brand new.... my question is the following

when i ran for the first time dxdiag ( xp pro 32 bit ) i noted that instead of saying ati 4890 it said, ati 4800 series......

in the first place i had no problem because the ati 4890 is , in fact, a 4800 series gpu...

but when i entered ati website to download the latest video drivers it said " 4800 series drivers " and "4890 series drivers" i didnt know what to do...

i downloaded the 4800 drivers, and it is all ok,, but that kept me thinking if i had really an ati 4890...

then i played counter strike source ( the only game i tested so far ) and fps didnt go over 250..... i believed that with this card fps would be like 500 or 400.....

so i wanted to know if it is all right that everest and dx diag display that i have a 4800 series instead of a 4890 series....

the card i bought is this one :

http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=130&cat2_no=137&prod_no=1786

i also wanted to know if the fps rendered are ok, and if i should donwload the 4890 series driver instead of the 4800

thx in advantage!

First of all you have to be patient, Tom's has over 2 million posts to this date so It aint easy helping everyone out in an instant....

Whenever you download a driver make sure it pertains to your card, meaning if there is a driver that states "4890" and you have an ATI 4890 then you should know that is the driver needed. Now, if the driver gets you 250FPS on CS then something is working, but what you have to take into consideration the fact that most peeps wont tell the difference between 100 and 250FPS. The "naked eye" is trained to see what is visible at the speed given, so in other words you should not worry about your FPS, rather make sure you have the correct driver.
