Hi all,

I have been going back and forth on this one. I hope you guys can help me out. Like many others, I have been debating whether to get a Radeon 4770 or a 4850. Im leaning towards the 4850 right now because it is the same price but performs slightly better. The problem is, I only have a 400w (cheap) power supply, and the 4770 uses much less power.

Currently I am already running on this ps:
Asus M4a78t-e mobo
phenom II 3x 720
2x2gb ddr2 1333 ram
2 80mm case fans
WD hard drive
Optical Drive

My question is, given my limited power supply, is it a better decision for me to go with the 4770 due to its lower power usage? Or is 400w plenty enough to run a 4850 safely.

Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Not much, still stick with the HD4770. The performance difference is negligible compared to the cost of getting a new power supply to use the 4850 comfortably.

Go with the Hd 4770.

My bad, its actually ddr3 ram. I don't know if that actually makes a difference though.

ive seen 4870s priced around where 4850s should be. and of course, the 4870 is vastly superior to the 4850. needs more juice too tho, so i guess im just busting your balls in the end.

Hey guys, thanks for your input. I think i will get the 4770, and crossfire it when I upgrade to a better power supply in the future.
