Record 5.1 through optical spdif

Hello there,

I need to record 5.1 audio through optical SPDIF

Do any of you know of a sound card that can do that?

I've searched and searched, but I can't seem to find one

Creative Xtreme Audio Pci-express version. The PCI express version has optical out and optical in, The PCI version doesn't.

Anything with an optical input should be fine.

And I can't believe someone actually recommended the XtremeAudio...

It's cheap and it serves the purpose. I myself find it a big pain but with enough effort it serves the purpose.

for how i see it, its the cheapest

So what you're saying is as long as i transmit a 5.1 channel audio through the optical SPDIF to the sound card it will record it as is and I just need the proper software to seperate them...that is what you meant, right?

Yeah proper software that is able to record 6 channel audio, and having your sound setitngs correctly set.

^^ Pretty much. Just remember that Dolby Digital/DTS streams are the only 5.1 streams that can carry over spdif...
