LAN will not hold configuration

My home LAN consisting of two XP boxes, an ME box, and a scanner will
not hold its configuration. On my machine it refuses to keep the name
of the workgroup I named, and instead it insists on using MSHOME for
the workgroup. I have assigned static local IPs to the MAC addresses
with the router. Could someone clue me as to what is going on?
