Will I see much difference between a Q9550, 4 gig ddr800 vs i7 920 2.66 and 6 gig 1600? Its time for an upgrade from my amd 5600 and I'm debating on wether the cost differnce for the i7 upgrades are worth it.

Well it will depending on what your going to be doing with the computer. Like if your going to play games, surf the web, converting files, ect.

If your just the average gamer or user then i would say c2q.
If you a heavy gamer or using professional programs that uses as many threads as possible than i would say i7-920.

I do play games and I'm probably going to get a new 5850 or 4890. Having problems running some games at higher qualites. I wont go xfire or anything but I do like to update stuff every couple years. I mess around with video and audio as well but nothing hard core. Everything else is normal use. I'm not trying to set new benchmark records either but it's time for some new toys. :pt1cable:

then i would say the Q9550. you'll probably wont use the power that the i7 has to offer anytime soon.

or you could go after an i5. It's pretty much an improved core 2 quad. Cheaper than the i7 but as great turbo boost on single thread app's.

My vote is on the Q9550. i7 is awesome for a heavy CF or SLI setup, where bottle-necking comes into factor. But for a single 4890 or 5870 you may only see a few FPS gains in gaming (depends on the game), between the two CPUs. Just my .02.
