What is the difference between DDR3 Dual Channel and DDR3 Triple Channel?

Can my Intel i7 860 Support DDR3 Triple Channel?

Help Needed.
ThankYou

you can use tripple channel memory with the 860 but it will default to dual channel as tripple is not supported with the 1156 socket.

"Dual Channel" and "Tri Channel" refer to the memory controller in your system, not to the memory itself. A "Dual Channel" system can access two DIMM modules at the same time, while a "Tri Channel" system can access three of them. The DIMM modules themselves are identical.

You can buy "dual channel kits" or "tri channel kits" of memory, but it's just the same memory packaged in pairs or triplets to optimize the number of DIMM modules you install into a dual- or tri-channel system.

Correct, ideally you should and memory in pairs (for the skt 1156), so either 2 modules or 4 modules.
