We can def's source you a new optical drive, but we will need to know something else first...

This is your computer: http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=dell+dimension+2400&hl=en&safe=active&rlz=1C1CHKB_en-GBAU450AU450&biw=1920&bih=1019&tbm=isch&tbnid=udpSw2zcVyTR4M:&imgrefurl=http://forums.vr-zone.com/whole-systems-desktops/720894-dell-dimension-2400-2-40ghz-pocessor-sms-91088887-a.html&docid=-oBfkVEQLNHZ0M&imgurl=http://forums.vr-zone.com/photopost/data/500/medium/dell2400.jpg&w=450&h=600&ei=d_HfTsLbH5DumAXdo8jtBA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=379&vpy=400&dur=1435&hovh=259&hovw=194&tx=110&ty=119&sig=105363487914976496502&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=105&start=0&ndsp=69&ved=1t:429,r:25,s:0

Does the optical disc drive take a pata connection, or a Sata connection.

Look here for the connection types:
http://www.google.com.au/imgres?q=PATA+OPTICAL+DISC+DRIVE+CONNECTION&hl=en&safe=active&rlz=1C1CHKB_en-GBAU450AU450&biw=1920&bih=1019&tbm=isch&tbnid=i0juKLfre7GoOM:&imgrefurl=http://www.itreviews.com/buyers-guides/dvd-cd-and-blu-ray/choosing-the-best-dvd-drives-and-dvd-writers-and-cd-drives/&docid=b0V1aRxJRpBB9M&imgurl=http://highlander.s3.amazonaws.com/www.itreviews.co.uk%25252Fphotos%25252Foptical_disk_connections.jpg&w=796&h=445&ei=wfHfTruwOer7mAW5nZH6BA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=72&vpy=217&dur=5718&hovh=168&hovw=300&tx=188&ty=67&sig=105363487914976496502&page=1&tbnh=91&tbnw=163&start=0&ndsp=68&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

Look here for purchasing Sata:

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=658_667&products_id=14161

And Pata Drive:

Why does it have to be Internal ?
Plenty of USB externals avail if you search.
