For that resolution, the above PC is a total overkill...
And 2x 4870X2...No way...
And quad-fire 4870X2 would certainly have driver issues...
Better off getting 2 HD 4890s in crossfire...
A single 4770 can max out all the games @ that resolution...
And 8GB RAM - Useless...Max 4GB is more than suffice...
As for the mobo, get a Gigabyte/ ASUS mobo...
a pc like that scorches the earth for about 200 yards in every direction and you want to connect it to a crappy old crt monitor thats only good for clogging the a junk yard?
Come to think of it ,its hard to imagine any monitor that needs TWO 4870 X2's to produce playable frame rates
so you probably just need a new hobby .. maybe knitting would suit you better than computers?
I've decided that I'm going to wait until October to see what the R800 brings before upgrading my current GPU which is a Sapphire 3870X2.
Although I like the latest Gigabyte board but don't care much for the Asus boards available at the moment, I think I'm going to stick with the Sapphire mobo. The AM2 board I have now as worked well for me so far.
As for the dual GPUs I think I will drop one of them and get me a better monitor instead.
get an i7 build now with a single 4890, then use the money you save to buy an R870 card in October-ish since the 5870 pricing will be about the same as the 4890 when it came out.
second thoughts, get an ASUS 4850 (get the asus since it has the best cooler) then overclock it to 750mhz with 50% fan. and with the money you saved, put it towards a nice 22" monitor and later the 5870 or 5870 X2. You'll have saved about $100-200 from your original build while having an overall better PC.
