Trouble with SATA->IDE adapter and HDD

I have old computer, which doesn't have SATA port. I don't know brand of my Motherboard, but chipset on it is VIA KM266-8235CD-6A6LVD4MC-00 . I try to install new HDD (SATA2) Samsung HD204UI 2TB using adapter (SATA->IDE) Viewcon VE457. All cables connected correct, but i don't see my new HDD in BIOS. I tried to experiment with jumpers on hdd, but nothing happens. I have only 4 pin for jumpers on hdd (for 2 jumpers position). When i turn hdd without jumper, i can hear some faltering sound signal. If i set jumper in second position the sound is absent.
I can't find the detailed instruction for my hdd

Someone can help me plug my sata hdd?

Set the HDD to CS (or cable select). Set the BIOS Sata operation to legacy if available and try again.

It could be the adapter is bad, they arn't very hearty in many cases.
