At that resolution a 4890 or GTX275 would be your best bet, depending on if you favor the red team or the green team. If you have no preference just grab whichever is cheapest at the time (should be the 4890).

i was thinking of getting an extra monitor 3 months after that. so i can have dual screens so i can have webbrowsing on one screen and then working on dreamweaver on the other one. would i need to get an extra card or ?

You don't have to, but you could go sli/crossfire, or even get a single card with multiple gpu cores like a 4850 x2 (~230$) or its nvidia counterparts, then assign each core to its own monitor.

was just wondering how do you know what graphics card is better than another? like is there a site that shows rankings for them or something?
