Hi there...

I was wondering which of these CPU's are fastest:
Phenom II 955 and Core i7 920. I've tried to search in the forum but didn't find a final conclusion.
The Phenom II is much cheeper than the i7 and seems to run at higher Ghz.
But i've heard that the technology in the i7 is newer and faster.

Which of them is fastets in a overall conclusion?

Thanks in advance :D

Hello and welcome to the forums :)
Yes i7 920 is faster than 955 in almost every task/games,it also OC's better, the only problem i7 build has is its Price which is considerably more expensive than 955,you may want to look @ Core i5 750 too,its cheaper than i7 920 and performs very well :)
Here is a good review which compares all of these 3 CPUs(It has X4 965 model though which performs pretty much like the 955 model)

Are you people totally incapable of reading the reviews on this site or what? Or maybe you want someone to read them for you? Or maybe you cant read?

Doesnt seem to review the cheaper i7 860 at all, just the i7 870. How do these compare?

Had both and liked them both. When it came time to sell one of them I sold the i7. The P2 games smoother, runs cooler and doesnt have the power requirements that my i7 platform did. Both are good but i7 is just overkill and doesnt look or feel as smooth for gaming (at least it didnt for me with quite a different selection of cards to experiment with).

The i7 860 seems kinda pointless for gaming then. Only marginally better than the i5 750 and nearly 70 quid more expensive. Which just leaves the i5 vs PhII issue, while the i5 is a tiny bit cheaper and performed a tiny bit better, the AM3 socket might have a brighter future than the 1156.

GO FOR THE i7!!! AMD dosen't compete with the i7,maybe with i5.

^Isn't totally true, in some cases the i5 win over the 955 and 965...and in other, the 955 and 965 can defeat the i5 and i7 920.

maybe, you should stop getting so high mr zipzoom and learn about critical thinking and investigation. reading any one review is far from conclusive, and attacking someone for seeking knowledge is morally reprehensible and abusive. if it makes you feel smart or witty to debase someone for asking a question, just know that the rest of us are not suffering from the same delusions.

^Or wait in Q2 2010 for the Phenom II X6 and the i9

Of the two, the i7 is faster...

But a better question may be to ask what you're using the computer for, and check the relevant benchies for that usage.

will the Phenom II X6 be AM3 socket?

I ask because I'm going to buy a AM3 mobo and a AM3 processor

(probably the p2 550BE since I just heard a new X6 is coming out in Q2 2010)

Please dont star the smoothier argument. It is totally subjective, and irrelevant.

Read the firts page of this article. And no, the socket will be the AM3r, but i think that this X6 should work on an AM3 socket.

If you ask me though, the i7 and the PII 955 are not even comparable. Most benchmarks/reviews I've read make that pretty obvious.

It's smoother I tell you smoother. AMD apply two drops of KY on their CPUs so you can more easily stick 'em up your.... ummm n/m

Ok all jokes aside I call B.S. on that claim that the Phenom II X4 is "smoother" than the i7 920. I think some people will simply see what they want to see.
