What is supposed to happen?

I just built this new computer:

OCZ550FTY PSU
ga-ma785gmt-ud2h
phenom ii x3 720
crucial 1666 ddr3 2x2gb
wd velociraptor 300 sata hd
sony optiarc 24x dvdrw

The drive is blank, so after the BIOS posts it goes to a DOS-like screen and at the top is says "TRACK 0000006" I think (machine is off at the moment)

What is supposed to happen after the BIOS post if you have no OS to boot into?

You are going to get an error message and go to a black screen. Your system won't do anything after posting without an OS. I recommend you install your OS first, before worrying about possible component issues.
