Hard drive replacement

I just bought a new IDE drive to replace a corrupt one and follow the instruction guide that comes with the drive,after powering on the messages reads "Primary Master drive fails". What's the problem? I do I fix it? Obet

Do you have the HD jumpered as Cable Select, Master or Slave?
