i'm building a new pc sandy bridge and confused about the difference of buying 1X4gb corsair vengeance because i will be using only one and adding another later then i saw 2X4gb of corsair vengeance for dual channel is there a difference in performance in these packages?

Corsair Vengeance 4gb ddr3-1600 (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9) CL9 (9-9-24) 1.5v
Corsair Vengeance 8gb(Dual) ddr3-1600 (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/B) CL9 (9-9-24) 1.5v

also does in sandy bridge, you still need to overclock ram to overclock the cpu?

thanks a lot... :D

what bugs me is when i buy the single then add one later to be dual channel

Corsair Vengeance 4gb ddr3-1600 (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9) CL9 (9-9-24) 1.5v
Corsair Vengeance 4gb ddr3-1600 (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9) CL9 (9-9-24) 1.5v
single+single

Corsair Vengeance 8gb(Dual) ddr3-1600 (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/B) CL9 (9-9-24) 1.5v
dual

will these perform the same? or the bundled dual will be much better?

The problem with buying single sticks at a time is that there is a chance that they won't work together. This is especially true if there is going to be a large amount of time (more than a month or two) between the purchase of the first and the second stick. Sometimes manufacturers make changes in the memory sticks, and occasionally those changes make it so an older stick won't work with a new one.

That isn't a problem with the sticks in a dual-channel kit, as they have been tested together and are guaranteed to work.

My advice is usually if you can't afford to buy a dual-channel kit, then delay the purchase until you can. You can certainly do the single-stick purchase, but know that you run the risk of them not working together.
