System freezing on Asus A8N-SLI

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Asus System freezing on Asus A8N-SLI

My Asus Chipset fan, the small one to the right of the blue, single Graphics card PCI slot, was noisy for a year, then quiet for the last few months. I didn't think to check the fan itself (no noise is good noise) until my computer recently froze, and found I had a dead fan....and my question is---

Knowing that my son has played CAll of Duty 4 occassionally for hours nonstop, have we burned out the chipset due to no fan cooling the chipset? Will lack of cooling cause this chipset to fail?

I am unable now to boot the XP Pro OS to see anything on the monitor, it receives no signal, so I can't get to BIOS....but when I first had problems, and just before everything completely froze, I was able to open the the ASUS monitoring program software, which indicated I had a failed chipset fan. Then, after one or two additional rebootings, nothing happens, nothing gets sent to the monitor.

Am I dealing with a dead motherboard, or is there possibly some way to repair / replace the chipset or the dead fan, or??? How does one contact Asus in USA to obtain a replacement fan? Should I try?
Thanks

At this point its safe to pull the plug on the fan incase it's failure has locked the system out by a short. Typically there is a heat sink and a fan but its possible its just a fan and the system and bios could lock out if there is a short in the fan. So disconnect just to see if there's life left in the board.
It's interesting on those boards that the fan is on the Southbridge and not the Northbridge which does all the hard work. Typically the SB is drive controller and I/O ports not that much to do compared to NB. The fan itself is typically $10.00 but no point if board cooked. You don't need asus to get a fan, I've seen them at compusa when I was slumming.

Great suggestion, didn't help this problem...so I bought a used MOBO and, with the great info I've received, Iim confident I can exchange good for bad. Happy New Year.
