i would like to know how to connect my server to the internet via a router when dhcp and dns are enabled on the server and both services are disabled on the router. it seems that if i have dhcp enabled on the server even though the server itself has a static ip, it does not allow me to connect to anything outside of the domains local network that i have created. any help is appreciated. thanks

Did you add forwarders to your DNS, e.g., your ISP's DNS? If not, it can't resolve non-local domain names.

If your server is your DNS, then it receives all requests. If it doesn't know about a domain, e.g., microsoft.com, then it needs to forward the request to another DNS that holds that info or knows how to get it from a root DNS.

Hi,

It is exactly the same question I want to ask as it cannot resolve non local domain names so it is necessary to add forwarders to your DNS.

Thanks!! :)
