I just got cod4 in the mail, after I installed it I was disapointed what my graphics card could handle... I didn't change anything for the graphics except putting it on 1280 x 1024. Does anybody have this problem where cod4 is barely playable on ati radeon 4870? And when I'm playing the temperature of the graphics card reaches 67 C is that normal?
That temp sounds fine. I would make sure you have the latest video card driver installed. If you do, it may be corrupt.
You could try to redownload a new driver copy and uninstall the old driver, reboot and reinstall the new driver, reboot and see what happens then post back.
That video card should play COD4 with no issues at all. COD4 was coded to work on lesser systems than yours so that should be no issue.

Ok, then define bad. Perhaps its working fine, just not how you liked/wanted. Another thing to try is going to 16x10 or higher. I've seen games not liking one resolution, but liking others higher up. Last, make sure your CPU is working correctly. Make sure its setup the way its supposed to, and that there aren't any heat problems.

Wow? I am using a an old 8800GTS 512, and PII 920 @ 3ghz, 1280x1024 and can max everything, it will run smooth as glass. I wonder why you need to enable dual video cards with your 4870 to get it run smooth....that is weird??
Glad it worked for you though, I was really puzzeled as I read through the thread.
It's strange indeed. Funny thing is, going way back, both ATI and NVidia users have cured COD4 chop by enabling dual video cards. Not sure why it plagues some and not others.

I was playing with that setting for a bit after reading this thread, seems to make no difference for me, on or off.
