2GB of my laptops RAM is not working so I have to replace it with another 2GB. This is what the sticker reads on the RAM;

2GB 2Rx8 PC2-6400S-666-12

What would you recommend I buy that is similar to this?

I couldn't find the exact same thing at the store (can't order online from ebay because i'm leaving the country in 12 days)

I did however pick up something that is also 2GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SODIMM. Is there anything else that has to match?

Uh oh, spoke too soon.

Restarted my laptop and getting errors like explorer.exe constantly crashing when I click on anything. And the BSOD came back with "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

Here's the thing.

The first stick of RAM that is not working I took out and works fine. I get this new one and put it in, I get problems. If I take the new one out, it works fine.

It would be highly unlikely that 2 RAM sticks in a row are both faulty, especially this new one that is straight out of the box.

Could it be that maybe the memory slot could be damaged?

It is possible that the RAM slot is bad, put a working stick in it after removing the RAM from the other slot and see if it works. If it does, then you know the slot is good. Then you might try getting another stick, exactly like what you just bought, and use the two new sticks. Laptops can be very finicky, and usually have very limited selections for changes in their BIOSes. I hope this works for you.

I tested out the slot and it does indeed work. Damn, so that new stick of memory (which I cannot return) will not work.

I don't think I can buy the exact stick of RAM I have in a store near me, and I don't have time to order one. I'll have to live with 2 gigs instead of 4.
