im worried that my core temperatures are running too high on my machine.. when i increase the fan speed it makes a small difference, like 2-3 degrees.. i am sitll in "safe" temperature from what ive seen in other threads but they are still too high for idle.. they are around 60-65c on full load. should i worry about these temperatures? might they be innaccurate?

Idle temperatures are relatively unimportant. Load temperatures should be the focus of your concerns, which in this instance, is a non-issue. If you consult Intel's Processor Spec Finder - http://processorfinder.intel.com/L [...] SearchKey= - or the Scales in the Core i7 and Core 2 Temperature Guide - http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] ture-guide - then you know that the specs for your Q9450 are:

Vcore Max 1.3625
Tcase Max (CPU temperature) 71c
Tjunction (Core temperature) 76c

so based on that guide, my computer comes up for safe as 60/65-65-65-65, so as long as my cpu/system temp is under 60 and my 4 cores are under 65 im ok? thanks for the help

I am the author of "that guide" which is based upon Intel's specifications.

CPU temp is different from system temp. Don't get yourself confused by combining separate terms. System temperature typically refers to "northbridge" temperature, which is the chipset containing the memory controller for processor / memory interface.

Also, 60c is generally too high for the nothrbridge chipset, which may indicate poor airflow in your computer case. 45c to 50c is considered normal for northbridge chipset temperature.
