I currently have an Intel Pentium 4 1.9 GHz (130nm,FSB:400,L2:256KB,Socket:478) on Intel Board D845GVAD2. I was planning to upgrade to the 2.40"A", but I doubt it's compatibility with my Board. I read many notes and Board documentation etc. but am yet unsure if the new CPU will work.
According to Intel website, my Board works with Pentium 4 CPUs having 400/533 Mhz FSB on socket 478. But under compatible processors it doesn't mention 2.40"A", although it does mention 2.40"B". Can somebody help ?
Has PMT(Processor Manufacturing Technology) got to do anything with the compatibility thing ? I mean all the CPUs on the Intel's compatibility list are 130nm as also 2.40"B" and my existing 1.90, whereas the new one 2.40"A" is 90nm.
Could it be due to the fact that CPUs with 90nm were released after my Board was made and perhaps after the Intel's compatibility article was written. Don't know :-|
Also, is there a chance that my Board's BIOS will not recognize the new 2.40"A" (90nm, perhaps Prescott) ?
and could it be This reason that Intel does not list it on the compatible processors page ?
Thanks in advance for your solution.
