Hi - I posted this in my other thread which is what i thought to had be a problem with my video card, but i thought i might post it here since i will be buying a power supply too.

I only have around ~50$ to spend - as i went ahead and bought the 9800gt and it is on its way, and i might as well buy a psu too, as i can return the video card if its not the case that my other one isnt working.

Anyways, im not really sure what kind i will need, i didnt know certain power supplies have certain hookups etc, i saw some that didnt have any pci-e power plug-in things (i think, and i think a 9800 or 8800 will require one?)

Here is a list of things i will be running in the computer - EP43-DS3L Gigabyte MOBO - 9800GT - 2 sticks of 2gb ram - ~4 USB devices - DVD RW in the future (dont have one currently) and 2 fans, cant think of anything else right now.

I really dont know how many watts i would end up needing (maybe somewhere around 500W PSU?), but i would like a good quality one, i know it is probably hard to get for 50 dollars, but just asking anyways.

Thanks.

^ Oh you wont need a 500W PSU to run that setup...
Even a high quality 400W PSU like the Corsair 400CX or the Antec EA 380W can run that setup without any issues...
I would say the Corsair 400CX is the best option and is sub $50...It can even run HD 4850/ GTS 250 without any issues...

CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W
$49.99
($39.99 after $10.00 Mail-In Rebate Card

And an easy way to find out how much power you need...

This would give you a rough value...

Well i forgot to add that i would be upgrading the vid card within the next few months too, to maybe a gtx 260 or something a step or two above the 9800 gt, do you think it would still run one of those?

any of these look good to you?

NO.....
These are low priced for a reason. They are tier 5 units on this list:

A cheap psu is false economy. Cut back elsewhere.

To handle a single high powered vga card, you will need two pci-e 6 pin connectors. Such a PSU would even be able to run almost any high end card up to the 5870 if it is good quality.

At $70, I would suggest the Antec earthwatts 500:

or the Corsair 550VX:

You will be paying an extra $20 to be able to run a stronger vga card in the future. If that is not worth it to you, then you can meet your $50 budget today, but will have to spend $70 later for a better psu to run that new vga card.
