Is it possible to SLI a 7950gx2 and a gtx260?I believe that the 7950gx2 is two 7950gtx cards in one. Thus making it the same "type" of card. On the Nvidia website it says you can SLI TWO XXXX gtx cards together but doesn't specify if you are able to SLI the GX2 series with a GTX. Or in my case the gtx260.

Impossible,
they're totally different generation cards
In ur case u either go with 2XGTX260 or 2X7950GX2
Provided IF you can find another 7950GX2
Anyway A single GTX260 will DESTROY 2 7950GX2

You have to have the same chipset. It can be a different brand.

For example:

EVGA 8800GT
PNY 8800GT

If one of those cards are slower then it will scale down to the slowest cards speed.

Retire the old card and the the single 260 if you cant afford 2 cards atm. If you can then you may want to consider going with a single faster card than the two 260's. SLI is nice but I think you would be better off with a single faster card to start with...

GX2 and GTX are not the "series" number of the cards.
The series numbers are, in you case, 7900 and 260.
These are the numbers that must match.

The numbers you are looking at are not the series numbers.
The GTX and GX2 are definitions of cards within a particular series.
For instance, in the 7900 series you have the GT, GTX and GX2
In the 8800 series you have the GT, GTX, the GTS.
In the 9800 series you the GT, GTX and the GX2
So on and so forth. There is a little more to it than that, but generally that is how it works.
