i saw on another post about two different nvidia cards in one machine doing two different things.
i was wondering if i used a ATI X1300 and a ATI 4890 in the same machine doing two things, movies and games. would that work with out compatibility issues?

system specs
ASUS M4A79 Deluxe
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.00ghz
4gb Ram
Radeon HD 4890 1gb

thats a 3 generation difference. the 4870 on X-fire within the 4800s i think so i'd say.....it won't crossfire, but it should work separately. if you have 2 monitors. idk try it out and get back to us.

wait i'll put my old x1600 in next to my 4870 and try it.

Vista or XP? You won't be able to use the newest drivers if you use Vista, as they don't support the x1xxx series. I think the 8.11s were the last ones. Remember that Vista will only load one graphics drivers, so as long as you use the last one to support the x1300 you will be ok. (as long as it also supports the 4890)

Catalyst since what, 9.3 or so is 3x and 4x upward only is it not? It should still be decent enough with both on 8.11 as 4745 says. Or see if you can pick up a cheap 3850 maybe.

Makes me glad I bought a GX instead of an FX...though tbh I'd still rather have the FX :p

ok i meant to say its back to normal with my 4890. i didnt try much with the other card. but if i do a fresh install of vista it might work.

But i have both monitors hooked up to the 4890 now, and i tried vlc on one of them and play far cry 2 on the other and it worked. i was getting the same fps as before, and the movie didnt lag or anything. so i might just leave it for now. but i might try media player or divx. something with a little better video play back.
