My Computer not responding

Everything is working properly except the My Computer function.
It will not display the hardware connected and locks up and it is not easy to escape from it . The problem started with it failing to show my external back-up hard disc, the connections of which I have checked. Now nothing is displayed.

Any new HW or SW recently installed ?

What shows in disk management ?

Have Windows CD to run sfc /scannow or repair install from ?
