Alright, im putting together my brother's new pc. Everything is going just swimmingly so far. I get to the point where I need to plug in the 8-pin power connector on the motherboard and to my dismay, the OCZ StealthXstream doesnt have an 8-pin power connector..................and I dont have an adapter. So my question is, is it possible to use one of the 6-pin power connectors (which it has 2 of) instead of the 8pin. Please assist.

Or is it possible that I could use a 4 pin? All it came with was one 4 pin and two 6 pin.

The 8 pin mobo connectors are typically on server boards with dual and quad cpu sockets.

Double check if its 8 pins also if so - you cant plug anything into their unless it fits exactly with comparable connector from your power supply.

The round peg fits into the round hole and the square peg ...etc

Its the GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P and its definitely 8 pin. Anyway, I plugged in a 4 pin and it seems to work just fine. Except when I was installing Vista I got a BSOD......not very promising. I'm trying it again and lets hope it works fine....im worried.

Using the 4 pin would probably be fine with a dual-core CPU, but with quad-core you may need 8 pins. The 6-pin connectors you have are for PCI-E graphics cards.
You might have to look at getting a molex-to-8pin adapter.

As cjl already mentioned, you should be okay using one 4-pin connector.

I've run into this situation before with other motherboards. I had an Asus board with an 8 pin connector but 4 of the pins had a plastic cover. I had to go to the Asus forum to find out it was okay to use just one 4 pin connector and that two 4 pin connectors would also work.

Yeah im good to go. I tried to do the most stressful thing I could do to see if I could make it crash, so I ran Prime95 for about 20 minutes and no crashes. I did get a bad stick of ram though so now I have to RMA it :{ Other than that its awesome. I was even able to unlock the 4th core :D
