There are so many posts about a flash card that is either write-locked or corrupted and not formatable.

Does anyone have enough experience with them to weigh in on why this might be? Some ideas that occur to me are
  • Lousy quality.
  • Cameras, PC card readers, and other devices are not truly interoperable; if you keep a card on one device, it will work fine forever.
  • They are mishandled more often than hard drives are.
  • Sony is breeding SD gremlins and loosing them on the world so that more people will use Memory Stick.
  • There are just so manyof them that a small failure rate results in a large number of failures.

Your input is welcome, and probably better-informed than mine.
