I just purchased a XFX 790i Ultra. I am upgrading because the Asus in my nephews Alienware stopped... He is running a Core 2 Duo2.13 E6400 1066mhs fsb. I missed that the new MB does not support DDR2 but DDR3. It will support up to 2000mhz DDR3. If I have to buy memory I want to buy DDR3-2000 but am unsure if the E6400 cpu will work with it. Can anyone advise me?

Thanks!!

yes it will work, but its an extremely arrogant waste of money, 1333 or 1600 will do just fine and wont decrease performance at all

don't worry bout the cpu...
you should be more worried about the mobo and memory... both should either be ddr3 or ddr2..

+1 ^. Well, OK, not arrogant . . . just a totally unnecessary expense.

I know it is a waste he just can not afford the better cpu at the moment. so I would like to buy the better memory and then he can upgrade the cpu at a later date. Thanks for the replies. Helped me ALOT!

Understood.

But even with i5/i7 cpus, 1333 is plenty, 1600 is hardly noticable, 2000 is . . . still overkill. Better to spend money on low latency 1333 or 1600 than anything on 2000.

Ok I get what your saying. 2000 is not noticable yet with the current technology of the I5/I7. In that case I will take your advice and go with the 1333 or 1600 thanks again!!
