Changing OS from normal HDD to a sataIII SSD

Hi There,

I currently have win7 x64 Ultimate on a 2TB green caviar HDD

I have installed a corsair 128 P3 to a sataIII port and am looking at using the SSD as my boot drive.

What is the best way to do this? Do I just unplug the HDD and install a fresh copy of win7 onto the ssd?

Mobo: Gigabyte X58-UD3R

Any help will be appreciated as I am fairly new to this sort of thing ;)

Thx

Just so. It's good that you know to unplug the HDD; if you don't, the boot process will depend on the HDD.

Tecmo34 wrote a good guide to the care and feeding of a new SSD: http://www.computing.net/howtos/show/solid-state-drive-ssd-tweaks-for-windows-7/552.html. Read that first, then let us know if you have any more questions.

I ended up doing just that:

    unpluged HDD
    installed SSD
    Checked boot priority
    installed Win7 on SSD
    Reconnected the HDD
Deleted old win7 installation on HDD

I can't believe how fast this SSD is!!!! amazing speed!! (1min30sec for a full c: AVG Scan)

    thx
