just bought a pretty generic firewire card for my audio card and firewire 400 lacie HD
i just put it in and windows cant locate the driver

i did windows update..nothing

searched google nothing...

whats the problem and is there a fix?

i got this because it had a ti chipset...

i letting windows recognize it.. its a off brand chinese one.. the website for the card is www.sunweit.com but the driver wont extract when i try and download from the site.. link was funny.

and now my onboard one wont work either as i uninstalled them both and tried to install again.. its made them all not work.. and windows update doesnt see it to update the drivers any

are there not any generic drivers for firewire cards. Its says windows xp comp on the box?

To my knowledge, there are no "Generic" drivers for firewire cards. Was there a CD that came with your card? Try installing this.

For your onboard firewire, try desabeling the port from your bios, boot in windows. Then re-enable and boot up. Windows should detect the new hardware and reinstall the drivers. It might ask you for your motherboard CD in the process.

For your chinese link... try to extract the package on another computer. Maybe it will work. Also, there might be a contact us link on the manufacturer web site ;)

Good luck!

Check the Manual that came with the card. I came across some cards that required you install the software BEFORE you actually installed the card physically.

no manual.. this was a very generic like 9 dollars firwire card.. but it supported what i needed 400fw and it has a ti chipset which i have to have for my audio card.. but the problem seems to be on both my cards now.. i uninstalled them.. windows trys to install them again as new hardware.. and it keeps saying there was a problem during installation

Go to start --- run
type : sfc /scannow

This will repair any system files that was dammaged... it will ask you for your windows disk but I think it is worth a try before you format.

ok thanks will give that a go

nope.. did nothing.. i have two sets of drivers for this type of card i guess.. and i tried all the drivers and nothing.. i actually got it to see one i guess. but still nothing.. looks like reformat is my only solution.. i think the windows install i used might be missing some key files as its a tweaked version for performace.. thats my only idea.. thanks for the help
