I am trying to install WinXP on a laptop for my son. Each time the install gets to around 58% I get multiple can not install errors, these are generally .dll files. Needless to say the set up does not finish. Please help, I have tried 3 different win XP discs, all legal and all clean with no scratches.

I get the following line
" The file Setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image. If you are installing from a CD there may be a problem with the Windows XP CD.

If I take the CD out I get the following message "NTLDR is missing"

Try with a new hard-drive. Also, are you using OEM disks on a computer that those disks are not for? Although unlikely since you are getting pretty far into the setup, those disks may not work on a system they did not come with.
