Newbie here. Considering building a low cost music only media server. It should be small form factor with low power consumption, remote control and HD audio (S/PDIF). Currently archiving my CD's in both WAV and FLAC. While Zotac's IONITX mobo (atom 330) looks like a promising foundation, I'm open to ideas. It will run Vista initially then upgrade to Win 7.

All ideas welcome.

You basically want some thing like that, right? Except, you want to listen to music instead of vids.

Thanks.

Yeah, audio is the priority right now. When I can afford a 40"+, 1080p HDTV building a full HTPC will make sense.

Might be a stupid question, but do you own a PS3 or XBox360 (or even old XBox that can be moded)? If so, it could be easy to just add a NAS with UPnP support to your home network and play your media files that way.

Not as DIY as you might have hoped, but it might save you $$$ toward that big 1080p TV and full HTPC :).

^True that. My friend uses his PS3 for Bluray/music streaming.
