Internal SATA HDD Write and Read MB/s?

I want to compare write and read rates on a regular SATA HDD (7200RPM, 32MB Cache) with an SSD I am looking to get.

What is average for a standard SATA HDD? The SSD I want reads around 250MB/s and only writes 60MB/s.

Hey Jnr1114,

What do you mean by standard SATA HDD? In general SSD are not going to give you better write speeds, with the exception of the high end models. The write speed on the SSD you mentioned isn't as fast as the higher to mid end HDD ( actually pretty low). However, the read speed makes up for it with the 250MB/s rating. Many users have SSD as a boot drive to store applications that they most often use.

See the links below:

Hope this helps you with your question!

Hey WyomingKnott,

Thanks for the reply, and understand the point you mentioned, however, the information that was provided was based upon the SSD specs that jnr1114 had given as well as the question that was proposed. It seemed like he pulled it off from a manufacturer site. So, the answer given was with use of a different chart on Toms' chart than what you mentioned.

Please see below:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/ssd-charts-2010/Fresh-state-Throughput-Write-Average,2314.html

This is what many users will see under the detailed specs which is the average(roughly) that the manufacturer states(just an example):

In essence, charts only tell so much of what performance means, however, how we view them can change our perception of them. Therefore, it can change what we think about it by providing different numbers for different series of test. So, it can become hard to filter which tests are applicable or not depending on the situation. I hope you can understand the point of view that was made.
