Hi all!

I have a LGA775 Mobo (a P5E) and i want to use it for casual gaming on a 1280x1024 display with a 4850 512mb.

For gaming i want to buy a C2D8500 and another 4850 512mb and crossfire them. (a 250€ investment)

Am i cool with that? Is L3 cache (for gaming!) worth another mobo? (+400€ total)

I know this is equipment with 2 years now, but i don't game that often and so i don't really need the extra performance here.. just wanna play smooth!

Thank you!

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. The E8500 has 6MB of L3 cache, so no problem there. Why would you buy another mobo?

The E8500 is a very quick CPU and should be perfect for your needs. However, I am of the opinion that an SLI setup is overkill if you're only going to stick to 1280x1024. It does have some future-proofing though.

Apologies, I did some digging, and in fact it's L2 cache, not L3. Regardless, the E8500 is a great gaming processor. My brother has one and plays Crysis flawlessly at 1280x1024 paired with a single GTX260.

thanks :) yes the other 4850 is for future-proofing at a really lowcost..
