40mm fan

I got this fan free with the purchase of a 120mm Scythe fan. It didn't come with any screws and I can't figure out where it goes. I think the bridges on my motherboard are already covered in some kind of heat dissipating metal pieces.

Any ideas?

If you look at the product specifications, this is a North/Southbridge chipset fan. I recently replaced a dead 40 x 40 x 10 fan on my Nvidia MX400 GPU.

I'm not having much luck digging up a link, but I recall some odd-ball case that had row after row of 40 mm case fans... seriously... like 8 or 10 of the little buggers. As far as practical applications I guess Badge is right... chipset fan.

I did a case mod last year where I replaced the stock northbridge and southbridge heatsinks with forged copper heatsinks and 40mm fans.

I had to remove my old broken 40mm fan from the 400mx and measure. I knew the 40 x 40mm, but the mounting (screw lenght) allowed for a 10mm depth (40 x 40 x 10mm). 40mm fans are available in other depths than 10mm. But my 400mx runs awesome. I should replace it with a kick butt PCI card, but the 2.5 Northwood couldn't handle my ambitious plan. Be advised. 8)
