1) set a budget
2)determine what applications you will be running most frequently
3)check out the benchmarks on those types of apps
4)buy the processor that works best for your app mix and fits in your budget

if u want to do nothing but check e mail word and excel AMD

Mild to big gaming higher end AMD

mild to big end gaming while getting ripped off-Intel

lots of processing while normally spending money intel

so intel is good for lots of processing, intense gaming and high processor usage whereas AMD is good for the mainstream user and the intense gamer.

~40 AMD Sempron 140

~50-70 Intel E5300

~80-100 AMD Phenom II 550 BE / AMD Athlon II X4 620

~110-130 Intel E7500 / AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE

~140-160 Intel Q8200 -- Intel E7600 for pure gaming

~170-190 AMD Phenom II X4 955

~200 Intel i5 750

>200 Intel i7 9xx
