I ordered a new Sony laptop from shopnbc.com and they oversold the item. Long story short the shipment has been delayed, to compensate they say they are upgradeing from a T4200 Intel Pentium Dual core 2.0 GHZ to a Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processor. Is this really a upgrade? and if so how much of a good thing is this???
Thanks, Terry

Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit processor

which means core 2 is latest when compared between the two.

Then again I can't answer the "Which one is better then the other" cause I don't know what you will be doing with the laptop, nor the details on the 2 CPUs you want to compare.

Hope this helps.

That is not correct information. The T4200 is a 64-bit 45nm CPU. Here's the specs:

What Centrino Core 2 CPU are they upgrading you to? There are a lot of them.

Wrong, there's no such thing as a 32bit dual core processor.

It depends on how fast the upgrade is, you forgot to mention that part, but technically a Core 2 Duo is faster than a similarly clocked Pentium dual core.

Intel Core Duo

OP, the T6500 has twice the cache and is 100Mhz faster than the T4200.
They are both based off the same die and offer identical feature packages.
The T6500 will be a little faster but not majorly so.
