Well, I am almost ready to start building my system as soon as the last parts come in.

I am going to a 64-bit processor so I want to take advatage of 64-bit Windws OS.

The question is should i just download Windows 7 RC 64-bit but use it as a fresh install on my new system and later install the retail version?

Also, I have been using XP Pro on my old system. Should I use 7 Pro when it comes out or 7 Home?

I've used Windows7 64 bit in a couple of new builds. Other then a few driver problems (VIA audio chipset) it's been fine. Drivers are now available for VIA and Windows7. When it's released i'll go with the Home Premium Windows7.
btw i burnt it at 1x speed.

This is mostly going to be a gaming rig.

How does Windows 7 64-bit stack up in that regard?

I put Windows 7 on my computer just the other day when I reformatted - so far so good.

The RC will be available until June or July 2010, which will give you plenty of time before you're forced to replace the OS.

That sounds like the plan I want to go with. But since I want this to be a fresh install, and I only have 32-bit OSs at home, How will I install this on my new HD?

Download Windows 7 RC.
Burn the Windows 7 ISO image to a DVD.
Build your new system.
Insert the burned ISO image DVD.
Reboot the system from the DVD.

That you are currently running a 32-bit system is a non-factor.

Sorry for the short post earlier, i was just stepping out the door. In every benchmark i've seen Windows7 is equal to or better then Vista. The only place it may fall behind XP is in extreme overclocking. I see Windows7 as just a more refined Vista with more attention to compatibility issues and drivers.
