The one movie I thought I might save: a Lara Croft flic, wouldnt build a
proper key file in tytools. Any TY extrators out there run into this
before and have a solution?

I don't think macrovision would affect tytools. Try muxing the file to a
VOB first and then try to make a keyfile from the VOB. Some Ty files are
just plain bugged and don't work right :-(

Another possibility, you could probably mux the ty file and burn it unedited
to a DVD.

I just Recprded it off another Showtime Channel at a different time, and
all is OK.
