GTX 580 Matrix Competing?

Hello Guys,

I've just bought my GTX 580 Matrix OC card for $790 very happy especially with the blue LDE on the top of the card MATRIX. Hawt.

I'm just curious into what you guys think it actually is competing with.

I'm glad I did not buy the Asus 6990 as the nosie from the 6990 is insane. The 580 Matrix dosn't make a sound. Already +1.

Any thoughts about this card.

Well, I would say it's not supposed to compete with anything, it's just part of the top-notch (and overpriced) Republic of Gamers series. Asus just likes making the best out of best. But considering that it has a 3-slot cooler, the temps aren't that good. It also has a custom PCB, so you can't install an aftermarket cooler or a water block to achieve even better temps (unless they release one), which kinda sucks. Sure it has a great overclocking potential, it looks cool and stuff, but I don't think it's enough to justify the price tag.

I did end up going this card, as I bought the 6990 previously found it was WAY to loud.

The Maxtrix LED changes colour which is pretty cool.

The OC ability is regarded highly, but the cooling is a issue.

Thanks for you 2 cents, hard to make these kind of choices especially when paying 800++
