whats oc and my budget is 1200

OC is overclock.

With your budget you really should be going with i7.

Bump the HDD up to the 640GB model, it's a bit faster.

Get a better quality PSU, such as Corsair TX650 or VX550.

+1^ and go for ASUS P6T for motherboard and a 4GB DDR3 1066/1600 RAM brands like OCZ,CORSAIR,CRUCIAL.... are good.

i7 build? Absolutely not for 1200$. We are not like Toms, we need other things in our PC than the bare minimum with the biggest cpu, mobo and graphic cards.

Did anybody asked him if he needed anything beside a strong cpu?

IF he add a bluray player, a sound card, another graphic card and stay with is q9550... he will pay the same price but with a way better computer.

I am sorry, but going i7 with a single 260GTX is absurd!

Not to say that the ATI 4870 is a way better bargain right now.

Not only that, but going Crossfire with two 4850 gives you the same graphical power than a GTX280 for a mere 165$ if you search well.

^ what are you on about?

and there is nothing wrong with having any PCIe Gfx card in an i7 build, but it really depends on use.

I would go i7. This $949.00. Overall better than AMD.

Case: Antec p180 - $75
CPU - i7 920 - $229
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD4P - $207
CPU Cooler: Sunbeam 120mm w/ TX2 compound - $40
RAM: OCZ Platinum 6GB - $100
PSU: Corsair 750tx - $110
GPU: HIS HD4890 - $199
HDD: WD Caviar Black 640gb - $75
DVD: LG 22x - $24
OS: Windows 7 RC Free

^+1 on evongugg's build.... It is a very solid build for under $1,000 and i7 is the way to go...

redgarl's charts from Tom's Hardware only shows all the processors at their stock speeds... You start to overclock the i7 (along with the others) and it starts moving to the top of the charts. Plus... none of those CPU's can match the i7's ability to handle encoding, CAD work, Video Editing... etc., even at stock speeds.
