Best thing to do is check which motherboard in in your PC - you can use CPUZ to find out as it will also show info about CPU / Mobo / RAM etc.

The head over to the motherboard makers website and check which CPU's are supported.

Depending how many memory slots your mobo has you can possibly add extra memory - again you will find out how much on the Motherboard makers website.

HD graphics cards are easy to spot but the inclusion of the HDMI socket on the bacl - not all modern cards have them so its not essential. Besides most modern monitors have a higher resolution than HD

ok u wana upgrade:

What games do u play or would like to play?
what is you budget?

if u CPU is an intel core 2 quad 2.4 Gz its likely the q6600 now really an upgrade for that would be an i5 or better to make it worth it. but the q6600 is still good and can OC to least 3 Ghz

As for the graphics card look at the recent articals toms hardware runs on best GPU for price and pretty much buy the best one u can afford.

HD means nothing for monitors just get the fastest gaming gard u can afford by nvidia or ATI.

Unless u wana use ur PC as a Media centre for ur TV and link the sound though the card via the HDMI cable in which case an ati card may be better but otherwise it doesnt matter

Gigabyte S Series ultra durable 2 motherboard P35-dS3P GA-P35-DSP3 Intel P35/1CH9R/Socket775/rev.2.0
PCI-EX4/3 PCI-Ex1/ATX 4DDR2 Dual -CH/DTS & Do;by Audio GbE LAN8 Sata 3Gb/s1394.
intel core2 quad 2.4ghz socket lga775 8mb corsair twin2xddr2 4096mb cl5kit with 2 matched cm2x2048-640dimms.
corsair power supply 550w atx/eps 120mm fan 4xsata.

That's a pretty up-to-date motherboard and you have a quality PSU so upgrading to pretty much any single GPU graphics card won't be a problem. I'm assuming the PSU is the VX550? If so it has 1x 6pin PCIe power cable and 1x 6/8pin PCIe power cable which will be needed for higher powered graphics cards. 8GB of RAM is plenty and it looks to be be quality stuff.

Now to the nitty gritty!

What resolution does your monitor run at, what games do you play and what is your budget?

We can probably recommend you a drop in upgrade.
