Hello,
1. What is the maximum performance, what a core i5-2500K CPU can?
2. Can you recommend a CPU cooler from Cooler Master?
Thank you very much!
(Sorry for my English :))

Steve

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

1- What depends of your CPU and components, not all performs the same even when are the same model.
2- What budget? Hyper 212+ for price/performance is very good.

Hi
Thanks the answer. I want to use a nvidia gtx 560 video card, 8 gb ddr3 (corsair vengeance) memory and the moterboard is an Asus P7P55D. I think the Hyper 212+ is a good choice.

It is common to get this chip to overclock to about 4.5GHz, but of course your chip might or might not be able to do this.

Before you try to overclock your chip you should search these forums and elsewhere on the net for "2500k overclock" and find out how other people are doing it.

Hello,
Thanks the answer. I searched a tutorial. It was very helpful. I think the 4.5 GHz is good for programming and for 3dsmax or Photoshop. So I'm going to buy this CPU.
I have another question. What is the best case to this computer (I want to buy Cooler Master; Probably HAF Series)?

I got an i5 2500k OC @ 4.5 @ 1.24vcore no joke. With the H70 idles @ 34c load @58 intel burnin. I got the MSI P67A-G43, turned off all the power saving crap. Dude the Raven RV02-E is the best case in my experience the HAF X is godly as well.

you will more than likely do 4.5ghz all day. I do find that liquid cooling made a big difference to my temps. Could not get ne more that 4.6GHZ on air before coretemps got too high for comfort.... I have done a 4.9 run on liquid (out of the box solution) but backed off to a 4.7GHz for 24/7 use....max temp 61 degrees C avge temps 58.

OC for I5-2500k and Asus P7P55D = 0 GHZ. - Am I missing something?? SB requires a H/P 67 or a Z68 MB.

Comments about OCing the I5-2500k are valid, mine was @ 4.6, no problem. Have the Asrock Z68 Extreme 4 MB. Both Asrouck OC software and Most others are overagressive on Vcore, so recommend backing off vcore to the lowest possive value while maintaing Stability.

On HSF
Upto 4.6 OC the 212+ is an excellent Cost/performance HSF. For 4.6/4.8, I'd recommend one of the top 5 Air coolers (Frosty's rating) - skip the H50/H60 Water HSFs as they are not better than the Ait HSFs. for above 4.8 - go with Water, again not the H50/H60.

This motherboard has LGA 1156 socket which means you can't use sandy bridge processors like i5 2500k. Get a P67/Z68 instead.

Running mine at 4.5GHz @ 1.28 volts.
Using Hyper 212+ for cooling.
Max temp under load, 61C

From my understanding a few select 2500Ks can get up to 5.0GHz (more than air cooling).
I've read quite a bit of people having stable 24/7 runs at 4.8GHz.
It really depends on your system though.

I agree with Chief on the tendency of the Mobos to be a aggresive on vcore using Auto OC. My 4.8ghz figs in my sig are reached by hand tuning; As a test I tried 48x multi via Mobo Auto tune... and it kicked in at 1.44v.. and I had not even started prime 95 at that stage....lol

AND he is dead right about the Mobo... i missed that in my earlier post.

hey... there is one problem,

the mother board you are talking about is socket LGA 1156

and core i5 2500k is not LGA 1156 it is LGA 1155

if u are looking for a good motherboard from ASUS

a P8P67 will be the best because it has the P67 chip set that allows you to use your 2xxxK series CPu to the MAX.

there are different models of the P8P67 mother board (P8P67-LE[crossfire only] then P8P67[crossfire only] then P8P67- PRO and Deluxe whic have SLI and Crossfire)

so make sure you have the correct motherboard for your CPU, coz they are not backward compatible.

and the cooler master hyper 212 is very good. i my self use 2 of them in my systems.
